TWENTYNINE PALMS MAN FLEES AFTER CRASH, HELD FOR DUI HIT AND RUN

A Twentynine Palms man was arrested Friday, accused of causing a crash on the highway, and then fleeing the scene. Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Arthurton was called to Twentynine Palms Highway and Indian Cove Road just before 5 p.m. Friday for a two-vehicle crash. When he arrived, he found that an unknown suspect driving a truck towing a trailer had crashed into the victim’s vehicle and spun it around before driving off. The victim, identified only as a woman, suffered minor injuries and was taken by Morongo Basin Ambulance to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. Arthurton received a tip that the truck and trailer involved in the crash were parked behind Wal-Mart in Yucca Valley. Deputies located the truck and trailer, which had fresh damage consistent with the earlier crash. The driver, identified as Shawn Bauer, 45, was arrested for investigation of felony hit and run and multiple counts of driving under the influence. Shawn Bauer was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $200,000.
