A Twentynine Palms man received serious injuries when a 25mm round blew up in his hand Friday evening. About 6:40 p.m., paramedics were called to the Marine housing area in the Vista Del Sol apartments. A Sheriff’s report says the unidentified man was on his back patio using a hand drill to drill into a metal object. While he was drilling, the object, later determined to be a 25mm round, exploded, leaving his left hand “mangled beyond recognition.” The victim was flown to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. The bomb and arson squad was called to the location to investigate.
