A Twentynine Palms man was arrested Wednesday, accused of leading deputies on a pursuit and being a felon in possession of firearms. According to the Sheriff’s Department, deputies attempted to make a routine traffic stop on a vehicle about 2 a.m. Friday, April 16, near Adobe Road and Baseline Road in Twentynine Palms. The driver, later determined to be Craig Carter, 48, led deputies on a high-speed pursuit before getting away. Deputies obtained an arrest warrant for Carter for felony evading. Yesterday about 12:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Department Specialized Enforcement Division went to Carter’s home in the 7800 block of Kellogg Avenue to serve the arrest warrant. Neighbors said the SWAT team used helicopters, a robot, and a flash bang to persuade Carter to surrender. Deputies located a firearm and ammunition that he had in his vehicle at the time of last week’s pursuit. Craig Carter was arrested for investigation of felony evading, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $250,000.
