A Twentynine Palms man was arrested Saturday (April 24) accused of transporting drugs. Just after midnight, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Highway 62 near Pine Avenue in Twentynine Palms for a car with a nonfunctional license plate lamp. According to the sheriff deputy, the driver of the vehicle identified himself as Clyde Halcomb, 67, and a records check revealed he had an expired driver’s license and a misdemeanor traffic warrant. During a check of Halcomb’s person, the deputy located a small amount of a white substance, consistent with the appearance of methamphetamine. Halcomb told the deputy of a larger bag under the driver’s seat that was found to contain 30.3 grams of the suspected methamphetamine, for a combined total of 33 grams of the substance including what was on Halcomb’s person. The report shows that Halcomb told the deputy he picked up the suspected meth from Indian Cove and was told to transport it to Wonder Valley, keeping a small amount for himself as payment. Subsequently, Clyde Halcomb was arrested for investigation of transporting a controlled substance and driving with an expired license and booked into the West Valley Detention Center, with his bail set at $100,000.
