Mayhem isn’t a term we hear very often, but a Twentynine Palms man was accused of mayhem after he allegedly nearly severed three of his girlfriend’s fingers with a scissors Thursday. According to a Sheriff’s report, Davin Saunders, 34, was arguing with his girlfriend about their relationship at the home they shared in the 74500 block of Valley Vista Drive. Saunders left the home but returned about 5:45 p.m. and got into another argument with the woman. The victim told deputies that Saunders grabbed a pair of scissors, and as she tried to grab them out of his hand, her right index, middle, and ring fingers were nearly amputated. A friend of the woman called 911, and while Saunders and his girlfriend were outside, Saunders allegedly attacked her again, punching her four to five times in the face. The woman sustained a laceration to the bridge of her nose and severe swelling to the left side of her face. Saunders fled the home before deputies arrived. The woman was taken by Morongo Basin Ambulance to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. The Sheriff’s report says Saunders later called 911 from another location. When deputies arrived, Davin Saunders was arrested for investigation of mayhem, booked into the West Valley Detention Center, with his bail set at $100,000.
