A Twentynine Palms man was arrested Thursday afternoon, accused of attempted robbery. According to a Sheriff’s report, Jerry Jackson, 56, went into Adobe Smoke Shop in the 72900 block of Siesta Drive at about 1:15 p.m. to buy a single cigarette. The clerk told deputies that Jackson attempted to reach over the counter to grab money out of the cash register. When the clerk told Jackson to leave the store, Jackson allegedly said he would return with a gun to shoot him. The clerk refused to give Jackson the money and closed the store. Jackson returned to the store later while the owner was on duty and the owner called law enforcement. Deputy Alex Stumbo recognized Jackson on the store’s surveillance video and arrested Jerry Jackson for investigation of attempted robbery and booked him into West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $50,000.
