TWENTYNINE PALMS MAN ACCUSED OF ATTEMPTED CARJACKING IN YUCCA VALLEY

A Twentynine Palms man was arrested Wednesday, accused of attempted carjacking. According to a Sheriff’s report, Shamar Washington, 19, asked a friend to drive him and another man from the Yucca Valley Circle K to Walmart. As the friend was passing Balsa Avenue, Washington asked the driver to drop them off at Sunnyslope Drive and Palomar Avenue. Once they got to the new location, the other man got out of the car on the passenger side, and Washington got out of the vehicle on the driver’s side. The victim said Washington then put a fist up to his face and his other hand in his pocket, and ordered the victim to get out of the car. Instead, the victim pushed Washington’s hand out of the way and drove away and reported the incident to police at about 10:30 p.m. Deputies found Shamar Washington at Walmart and arrested him just before midnight on Wednesday for investigation of attempted carjacking. Shamar Washington was booked into the West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $125,000.
