A Twentynine Palms man literally fell on his sword Monday afternoon. According to Twentynine Palms Fire Captain Matt Helmkamp, the man, identified by the Sheriff’s Department only as being a 21- or 22-year-old resident of the 6700 block of Adobe Road, was in bed with a sword leaning up against the edge of the mattress. When the man tried to get out of bed about 4:30 p.m., his foot got tangled in the sheets, and he fell onto the sword. Helmkamp said the man suffered only a small puncture wound to his abdomen, but he was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs as a precaution.
