TWENTYNINE PALMS MAN ACCEPTS PLEA BARGAIN THURSDAY IN MURDER

A Twentynine Palms man accused of shooting another man in January 2014 pleaded guilty in a Joshua Tree courtroom Thursday. Raymond Burney, 55, was arguing with Wayne Kerr, 55, in the 6300 block of Palmview Avenue when Burney pulled out a gun and shot Kerr in the upper chest. Kerr was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Burney was on supervised probation at the time of the murder for a 2011 conviction of possession of cocaine base for sales. Burney pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and assault with a firearm, with an enhancement of using a firearm. Raymond Burney has been held in West Valley Detention Center since his arrest on bail of $1,550,000. He is scheduled to be sentenced November 30.
