Last night (September 26), the Twentynine Palms High School Ladycats volleyball teams hosted Indio. JV dropped the first set and fought hard in the second set but still came up short 19-25. Amarah Banerjee had one kill. Carolyn Morning served up three ace serves and Anisa Youso had 2 ace serves and one kill.
The Varsity team started off with a bang but came up short in the first set losing 23-25 and the second set 23-25. They battled back, winning the third set 25-17 and the fourth set 25-18.
Some unfortunate events occurred, as two players suffered injuries, and the cats lost the fifth set 8-15. Senior Lexi Hanson had a huge solo block, 2 ace serves and 3 kills for the cats.
Senior Itzel Solorio had 2 ace serves, 4 kills and defended the back court with 16 digs.
Senior Zemira Mosqueda played solid all night putting up 2 kills, 2 ace serves and 9 digs.
Sophomore Lindie Stewart put up six points with her ace serves and had one kill.
Junior Kyla Palpallatoc played solid defense with 14 digs, was a force at the net with 17 kills, 2 ace serves, and 5 assists.
Sophomore Jenica Silvas played solid with 3 ace serves, 20 digs and 23 assists.
Coach Melissa McGivern said of the game, “What the stats do not show, is the amount of heart and determination every single player had shown on and off the court, they never let down. Way to work ladies.”
The Ladycats are now 5-4 in league and will host Cathedra City on Wednesday (September 28.)
