The Twentynine Palms High School Ladycats volleyball teams traveled to Eagles’ territory in Desert Hot Springs on Friday night (September 20) for a non-league match up and both teams brought home the win.
The junior varsity team won the first set 25-14. The second set they fought hard to come from behind to win 26-24. Lily Romero Gonzalez was big at the net with 7 kills. Hailey Stephenson had 3 kills, 3 aces, and 5 assists. Emma Avalos had 3 ace serves and 2 assists. Willa Cowgill also had 3 ace serves. Madison Critchfield had 3 kills and Arabella Straggs had one kill.
In varsity action the Ladycats lost the first close 23-25 and then the second set 20-25. The cats pushed through and won 25-19, 25-20 and 15-7. Freshman Eva Tili was huge at the net with 13 kills, 1 solo block, 1 ace serve and 5 digs. Sophomore Vivian Grunt had 4 kills, 4 ace serves, 2 assists, and solid defense with 19 digs. Sophomore Seniyah Hawkins had 9 kills, 3 ace serves, 1 solo block, 13 assists and solid defense with 18 digs. Junior Cambria Schneider had 8 assists and solid defense with 17 digs. Freshman Leilani Stratton had one ace serve, one assist and 11 digs. Senior Tui Young put down 5 kills, had 3 ace serves, and 6 digs. Sophomore Berlyn McCormick had 2 kills, 2 ace serves, 1 solo block, 2 assists and 2 digs. Senior Jayde James had 3 kills and senior Violet Tucker had 2 kills. Junior Haylie Rodriguez had 9 digs.
The Ladycats host the Trojans of Yucca Valley High School today (September 23) at 5:15 p.m. Come out to support our hometown teams.
