A local family who’s been active in the community has been named 2018 Family of the Year by the Twentynine Palms Kiwanis Club. Kiwanis president Cleve Spaight said the Bateman family—Jayme, and her children Gabriel, 15; Carly, 13, and Tyler, 7—are top students and are active in scouting, sports, and Theatre 29. Rebecca Havely has more about this outstanding Twentynine Palms family…
Jayme Bateman describes herself as a “full-time mom” and an instructional assistant at Oasis Elementary School. She has coached soccer for eight years and has been involved in both Boy and Girl Scouts. Bateman was the administrator, greenroom mom, and stagehand for the junior and senior groups for Theatre 29’s five-week 2018 summer youth theater. Tyler, Carly, and Gabriel all acted in Theatre 29’s summer youth theater. In addition, Gabe earned his Arrow of Light in Cub Scouts and is now a Life Scout in Boy Scouts. He plans to do duel enrollment with Copper Mountain College during his junior and senior years in high school and plans to study acting in college. Carly did six years in Girl Scouts and earned a Bronze Award last year as a junior scout. Last year, Tyler joined his older siblings in playing soccer. Congratulations to the Bateman family, the Kiwanis 2018 Family of the Year.
