The Kiwanis Club of Twentynine Palms recently named the Horn family as its annual Family of the Year. Kiwanis Club President Herman Platzke said the Horn family—Gary and Sai, and their four sons, Julius, Johnathan, Joel, and James—are always ready to volunteer at community food give-aways, service through the high school or their church, the Spirit and Truth Worship Center. The Horn family were honored at an outdoor ceremony at the Twentynine Palms Masonic Lodge Tuesday, October 6.

The Horn family of Twentynine Palms are father and mother, Gary and Sai and children, Julius, Johnathan, Joel, and James.

The Horn Family is well-vetted in the community. They are always ready to volunteer. Whether it is helping the homeless, volunteering at the community food giveaways or service through the local high school and their church, they are always giving back looking for ways to serve.

Members of Spirit and Truth the family serves as deacons, children’s church teachers, and in the nursery.

Gary Horn has a Doctorate in Biblical Study and is an adjunct instructor at Bread of Life Christian University. The sons are constantly achieving high honors in school. Julius has been accepted to USC.

The Horn Family home is full of love and laughter. They have opened it to many and they are always ready to share a word of encouragement. You can always find a good meal and a good laugh at the Horn’s home.

The respect of the family members toward one another can be seen in their everyday interaction. An overriding family attribute is how the four teenage sons love and protect their mother. This is a direct reflection of how their father cares for her, too.

All of the teenagers serve as youth mentors, volunteer at area food banks, at their church, and as members of the Interact and Polynesian Club.
