Originally known as “Armistice Day,” the holiday debuted on November 11, 1919, to mark the first anniversary of the end of World War I. In 1926, Congress made it an annual observance and in 1954, President Eisenhower changed it to “Veterans Day” to honor our soldiers, both living and dead. The city of Twentynine Palms and Action 29 Palms will host a Community Veterans Tribute from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Attendees should meet at Mural #5, “Desert Storm Homecoming and Victory Parade” on the south side of Desert Cycle Works, 6177 Adobe Road. There will be an official ceremony at 11:00 a.m.
Also, the Mojave Vipers will host a free breakfast for veterans and first responders from 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 73002 El Paseo Drive in Twentynine Palms.
