Over the weekend, the Twentynine Palms City Council hosted its biennial Strategic Planning Workshop. Reporter Heather Clisby was there…
Led by former City Manager Andy Takata, the Twentynine Palms City Council convened a Strategic Planning Workshop Friday night and Saturday morning. Usually held every other year as a newly elected or re-elected Council begins its two-year term, the council hosts this public event to revisit past goals, reflect on the current city status and create future plans.
The lively, informal workshops included a Project Phoenix update from Community Development Director Travis Clark; the urgent need for a wastewater treatment facility as explained by City Manager Frank Luckino; and thoughts around expanding tourism from the Marketing and Tourism Development Director Breanne Dusastre. Other topics included protecting the night sky, the proliferation of massage parlors and the lack of doctors and a full-care hospital.
Takata also led the room in weighing the city’s strengths and weaknesses, the town’s unique opportunities and possible threats to the city’s ultimate success. The workshops were primarily for open discussion and brainstorming. No official decisions were made as such matters would be brought before the Council.
