The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcats Track and Field team traveled to Palm Desert High School for their first invitational of the year Saturday with podium performances from Spencer and Vanessa Walton, Liana Ruiz, and Garrett Schrepfer. Coach Rhonda Lockett-Morton said Spencer Walton scored the team high points winning the 1600 meters in a personal record of 4:33, and the 3200 in 10:00. Liana Ruiz earned second in the shot put at 34 feet 1inch, and fifth in the discus at 97 feet 5inches. Schrepfer had a personal best in the 800 meters when he placed second place in 2:02. Vanessa Walton earned first place in the 3200 meters in 12:30.
The junior varsity was led by freshman Adam Mapuatuli, who won the discus with a throw of 109 feet, 2 inches. Freshman Isaiah Castaneda-Garcia, won the triple jump in 39 feet 6.5 inches and earned third in the long jump. Castaneda-Garcia also took a top 3 in the JV long jump at 16 feet 9 inches. Freshman Brandon Benton cleared 5 feet 2 inches to take a JV top 3 in the high jump.
