The Twentynine Palms Wildcats traveled to Cerritos College to compete in the prestigious CIF Southern section finals meet this weekend. Coach Ronda Morton said the peak performer of the day was Andrew Wilson (a junior) who earned first place, with a heave of 157 feet 6 inches in the discus, a personal record and placing him in the top four of all-time discus throwers in school history. Two weeks after being named the school Athlete of the Year after standout seasons in football and basketball, Wilson became the seventh CIF individual champion in school history, ninth overall champion, and the first since 2007. Sophomore Liana Ruiz placed ninth in the shot put and Senior Ronnie Rondeau placed fifth in the 300 meter hurdles, with a time of 40.51.
