TWENTYNINE PALMS HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER LOSES LEG IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH

A 30-year-old Twentynine Palms High School Teacher suffered a leg amputation during a motorcycle crash on the freeway in Beaumont. California Highway Patrol officers said Jonathan Davis of Norco was hurt at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday as his westbound Yamaha sport bike was transitioning from Interstate 10 to Highway 60. Davis was traveling faster than 65 mph when he lost control while approaching the back of a silver Honda Accord, driven by Mandi O’Coner, who was entering Highway 60 from Sixth Street. CHP Officer Darren Meyer said, “Davis became airborne and flew over the bridge railing onto the eastbound lanes of I-10 below. The impact caused the amputation of one of Davis’ legs. The motorcycle came to rest in the fast lane of westbound (Highway) 60 and burst into flames.” Davis was taken to Riverside County Medical Center in Moreno Valley. Jonathan Davis had just started this school year teaching social studies at Twentynine Palms High School. Family members said his recovery will be substantial, but he is optimistic and in good spirits.
