The Twentynine Palms High School swim team traveled to Cathedral City High School where the Wildcats broke two more school records with another record reset, while 13 CIF consideration times were achieved. Coach Michelle Minatree-Teo said “This year we have a very small but powerful team. Coach Irene [Beard] and I are extremely proud of our girls and boys and we worked each swimmer hard which shows in this team breaking four high school records this season and 13 of 22 races achieving CIF consideration times.”
The three seniors on the swim team talked about their last year on the swim team.
Captain Lea Speer said, “This year has been exciting, nervous and at the same time I’m having fun. I am sad and will miss the swim team, but I plan on swimming in college at UC Santa Barbara.”
Captain Dorian Phillips said, “My senior year was tiring and difficult and I got through it. After high school I plan to attend Grand Cannon University and study Psychology.”
Ashley Waring said, “My senior year is sad, I have had a lot of fun and I have made more new friends on the swim team and off the team. I will be attending Northern Arizona University studying nursing.”
The Wildcats boys’ swim team broke two Twentynine Palms High School records and reset a record.
The boy’s 200-yard medley relay of Daviahn Thrasher, Will Kinitz, Colton Charles and Aiden Sullivan broke the record set in 2005 with a time of 1:55.55, which is also a CIF consideration time.
Aiden Sullivan reset the 50-yard freestyle and bettered his CIF consideration time with a time of 23.52.
Colton Charles broke the 100-yard butterfly which was set by his mentor Kenny Johnson in 2013 with a time of 59.81, which is a CIF consideration time.

Patricia Zuniga swam the 200-yard freestyle in 2:17.72.
The 200-yard individual medley (IM): Taylor Scamman swam with a time of 2:36.63 and Will Kinitz swam his IM in 2:16.06.
Madi Soster swam the 50-yard freestyle in 27.94.
The 100-yard freestyle: Patricia Zuniga swam with a time of 1:01.41, Madi Soster swam her race with a time of 1:03.50 and Aiden Sullivan’s race time is a 53.75.
Girls’ 200-yard free relay team of Madi Soster, Mary Carbiener, Patricia Zuniga, and Taylor Scamman with a time of 1:53.96.
Taylor Scamman swam the 100-yard backstroke with a better time of 1:08.88.
Girls’ 400-yard free relay team of Lea Speer, Hailey Beck, Jacqueline Ford, and Patricia Zuniga with a new time of 4:27.12.
