The Interact club at Twentynine Palms High School, a community service club sponsored by Rotary, has started their latest project. Reporter Taylor Thacker tells us how to help them collect food for 100 families.
The Twentynine Palms High School Interact Club, directed by Lori Cosgriff, is working with the K Club at Twentynine Palms Elementary, the Early Act Club at Oasis Elementary and the Twentynine Palms Community Food Pantry to bring their annual canned food drive. From March 11-22, these clubs will be collecting nonperishable canned foods and Easter goodies. Lori Cosgriff says, “Nonperishable food items are always welcome, things that have a long shelf life: canned beans, pasta sauce, things like that, but because it is a spring canned food drive we’re looking for Easter goodies, like Peeps.” Your canned foods will be donated to families in need. “It’s important to realize that there are people in our community who are hungry all the time and the holiday gives us an excuse to address that so I encourage everyone to participate.” The cans will be put into baskets and distributed to 100 Twentynine Palms families. “So all you have to do is call and when you come to pick up your basket you have to prove that that’s your name on the list with a picture I.D.” The 100 families will receive the baskets on March 30 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Twentynine Palms Community Food Pantry. If you like to receive a basket please call 760-361-1410. “Well, I encourage everyone to join us!”
