History was made by the Twentynine Palms High School girls’ basketball team. Last night, in CIF Southern Section quarterfinals, the Lady Cats defeated the Viewpoint Patriots in Calabasas, 48-38, in a game that went into overtime. The Lady Cats were behind 18-20 during the first half, but pulled ahead 35 to 27 in the 3rd quarter. The game was tied 38-38 in the fourth quarter and the Twentynine Palms girls scored 10 points to win in overtime, 48 to 38. No individual stats were provided. The girls’ basketball team is now ranked 12th in the state, with a 22-7 record. The win will bring the Twentynine Palms girls home for a semi-final match against Cantwell-Sacred Heart High School at 7:00 this Saturday night. School official advise that supporters get to the gym about 30 minutes before game time.
