Our local high school basketball programs notched some wins last night. The Twentynine Palms boys’ team took on Desert Mirage High School. Coach Michael Schneider said the game started with nice defensive efforts for both teams. Scoring was again at a minimum, and the halftime result was 19-to-16 in favor of the Wildcats. In the second half, the Wildcats outscored the Rams of Desert Mirage to a score of 30-19. The final was a victory for the Wildcats, 49-to-35. This brings the Varsity record to 10-and-10, 5-and-1 in league. Their next opponent is the Trojans of Yucca Valley at home Friday night, game starts at 7:30.
The Yucca Valley High School Trojan boys’ basketball squad beat the Desert Hot Springs Eagles by the score of 51-49. Coach Joel Geeson said the leading scorers were Tanner Littrell and Jordan Batin with 12 points each and Dutch DeMeo with 11 points. Jordan Batin led the team with 16 rebounds. Their league record is now 3-3.
The Yucca Valley Lady Trojan basketball team cruised to a 64-16 De Anza League win over the Desert Hot Springs Golden Eagles last night in Trojan Gym. Coach Jess Geeson said the Lady Trojans who led 46-4 at the half were led by Lauren Pitts who scored a game high 20 points. She was helped by Whitney Rodriguez who added 11 points and Lindsay Sullivan who chipped in 10 points. With the win the Yucca Valley High School girls’ squad ups their overall record to 13-4 and 5-1 in league play. Next on the schedule is a Friday night date at Twentynine Palms with first place on the line. Tip-off time is 6 p.m.
