The Twentynine Palms High School boys’ basketball team faced the St. Paul Swordsman from Santa Fe Springs in a Southern Section CIF Division 3A final Saturday. The Wildcats held on in a gritty game and won the division in overtime, 70-68. D’Shaun Barrett scored 29 points and Adam Bell had 17 for Twentynine Palms. St. Paul was down by eight points in the fourth quarter, and forced the game into overtime. St. Paul’s attempt to tie the game and force it into a second overtime failed at the buzzer when the basketball fell off the hoop’s rim. The win earned Twentynine Palms a home berth this Wednesday when they play Sage Creek High School of Carlsbad in the 2017 CIF State Boy’s Division IV Basketball Championship. The game starts at 7 p.m. in the Richard Casey Gym at Twentynine Palms High School. Sage Creek is at 14-17; Twentynine Palms is now 27-3.
