Big congrats to the City of Twentynine Palms who received word yesterday that they will receive a $2 million grant from the California Natural Resources Agency. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details…
Yesterday, the California Natural Resources Agency announced $37 million in funding for 21 projects under its Cultural, Community and Natural Resources grant program funded by Proposition 68.
And after months of crossed fingers, the City of Twentynine Palms welcomed the news they were included in this funding and awarded $2 million for their project.
Partnering with the Joshua Tree National Park on the grant application paid off for the City in a big way. The $2 million grant will fund construction of the Joshua Tree National Park Visitor and Cultural Center, a dual-purpose building that will be a visitor center for the Park and a cultural center and museum for the Chemehuevi and San Manual (Serrano) Bands of Mission Indians.
The Park aims to showcase cultural artifacts that have long been kept in storage due to lack of space. The Center will feature some of the Campbell collection of prehistoric, historic and tribal artifacts, which date back 10,000 years to the Pinto Basin Culture.
