TWENTYNINE PALMS FIRE STATION CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS

The Twentynine Palms fire station is temporarily closed while the station is undergoing renovations. The fire crew has been relocated to a nearby residence until the remodeling is completed, which is expected to be the first week of August. The renovations, which are being paid for out of Project Phoenix funds, will include deferred maintenance, including a new roof, new air conditioners, flooring, new paint, sidewalk and driveway repairs, and making the station compliant with the American with Disabilities Act. The cost is estimated to be about $160,000; $190,000 was budgeted for the repairs, and any unused funds will be set aside for future fire station upgrades and repairs. The fire department will continue to be fully staffed and operational during the renovations. To report emergencies, call 911. Fire Chief Jim Thompson added that no burn permits will be issued until further notice.
