The Twentynine Palms Fire department offers an annual program called fire explorers. I talked to Captain Robert Marquez and asked him what a fire explorer was.
“It’s a program that’s designed to bring young people into the fire service and give them exposure to what it’s like to be a firefighter.”
How do you sign up to be a fire explorer?
“Here in Twentynine Palms you go up to the fire station on Adobe, speak to the fire explorer coordinator or the person in charge of the fire explorer program.”
What is the one thing that is required to be a fire explorer?
“The one thing the program does stress is you have to maintain a certain grade point average, which to my knowledge it is a C.”
