TWENTYNINE PALMS FILM FESTIVAL TO FEATURE MORE THAN MOVIES

The 24 military films and documentaries being shown at the Twentynine Palms Military Film Festival this weekend will include some of the best war movies ever produced, from patriotic classics to original documentaries. Managing editor Tami Roleff says the film festival will feature more than movies, though…
The Twentynine Palms Military Film Festival features 24 films and documentaries from major studios to independent movie makers. Selected screenings will highlight military veterans who will share their recollections and personalized accounts of pivotal moments during the Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan wars. The film festival will open 5 p.m. Friday, May 13, at the 29 Palms Inn, with a tribute to the fall of Saigon and will feature Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant Juan Valdez, who was the last Marine to board the helicopter on the U.S. embassy in Saigon before Saigon fell. The 2014 Academy Award nominee “The Last Days of Vietnam” will follow the reception.
The movies will be shown at Smith’s Ranch drive-in theater, Smith’s Ranch auditorium, the Twentynine Palms Junior High School, and Knott Sky Park. Passes for the festival range from $25 to $70 and can be purchased at the Twentynine Palms Visitor Center or at a link in this story at z1077fm.com.
