TWENTYNINE PALMS COUPLE ACCUSED OF CHILD ENDANGERMENT

A Twentynine Palms couple was arrested early Saturday morning, accused of child endangerment. According to a Sheriff’s report, deputies were making extra patrols in the 4300 block of Adobe Road. An abandoned home in the neighborhood had been burglarized recently, and deputies noticed about 9:45 p.m. Friday night that items were staged outside the home for the suspects to take on their return. About 2:30 a.m. Saturday, deputies saw a white car pull up to the residence and shine its headlights on the items staged outside. Deputies performed a traffic stop on the vehicle, and found Patricia Jones, 32, driving, and John Jones, 37, in the car’s front passenger seat. In the back seat were three children. John Jones initially gave deputies a false name because he had active warrants for his arrest. Deputies determined both Patricia Jones and John Jones were under the influence of a controlled substance. During a search of the vehicle, deputies found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on the floor of the back seat at the children’s feet. Both John Jones and Patricia Jones were arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, and John Jones for his warrants for spousal abuse as well, and booked at the Morongo Basin Jail. John Jones is being held on $185,000 bail; Patricia Jones’ bail is set at $100,000. Child Protective Services was called and took custody of the children.
