TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL WRAPS UP 2019 TONIGHT

The Twentynine Palms City Council gathers this evening for their final meeting of the year and the annual mayoral switch-out. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details…

Tonight, the Twentynine Palms City Council will meet to wrap up 2019 with a changing of the mayoral guard. Outgoing mayor Steven Bilderain, will give the State of the City Address and also present the Employee of the Year and the Mayor’s Recognition Award.

The council will also acknowledge the retirement of Jim Ricker, assistant chief of staff, G-5 Government and External Affairs for the Marine base.

The council will then discuss plans for sewer and water improvements relating to Project Phoenix. The Van Dyke Corporation will engage the project for just under a million dollars.

Next, the council will welcome the City’s new mayor and mayor pro tem using the determined selection procedure. Councilmembers ascend to the mayor’s seat based on the number of votes received in the elections. Since the mayor and mayor pro tem change annually, as the mayor pro tem ascends to the mayor’s seat, the individual who received the next highest votes becomes the mayor pro tem.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall on Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms.
