TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL VEHEMENTLY OPPOSED TO RELOCATING SEX PREDATOR

With the news so fresh it didn’t even make the original agenda, the issue of Orange County seeking to relocate a violent sexual predator to Twentynine Palms was the urgent topic at last night’s city council meeting. Reporter Heather Clisby has details…

Last night’s Twentynine Palms City Council was the first time—but certainly not the last—that the city would officially reject efforts by Orange County to relocate Lawtis Donald Rhoden, a sexually violent predator with a long record, to the community.

The Twentynine Palms City Council was strongly opposed to the placement of sexually violent predator Lawtis Rhoden in the city.

To allow for a wider response, there will be an emergency community meeting Thursday, March 25, at 5 p.m. at the Twentynine Palms Community Services Building, 74325 Joe Davis Drive. The council has asked attendees to bring personal stories to share with leaders from the city and county who will be present.

Concerned citizens may also submit comments directly to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department via email: [email protected].

The council also unanimously agreed to support Senator Shannon Grove on her bill, SB 39, which will strive to prevent fraudulent claims filed with the Employment Development Department for unemployment benefits to ineligible recipients specifically, prison inmates.

The next city council meeting is scheduled for April 27.
