If your city is in a sanctuary state, is it automatically a sanctuary city? And what, if any, federal funding does it stand to lose in the ongoing battle between the federal and state governments over illegal immigration?
Those are among the thorny questions to be tackled at tonight’s Twentynine Palms City Council meeting in the wake of California’s recent declaration that it will become the nation’s first state to routinely refuse cooperation with federal officials enforcing immigration laws. The action charts a direct collision course with the Trump administration, which has vowed to make so-called sanctuary regions pay dearly for such transgressions.
