The Twentynine Palms City Council met last night to swiftly address several orders of business.
Innovative Federal Strategies, the city’s lobbying firm, gave a solid presentation outlining their successes. IFS works with the federal government on behalf of the city on issues such as land transfers, grant opportunities and matters relating to the Marine Base. Later in the meeting, the council agreed to renew their two-year contract.
The council approved a resolution to levy a 1.5 percent fee on all lodging to be used for the Tourism Business Improvement District. This will generate $200,000 annually to be used only for promoting local tourism.
City Manager Frank Luckino gave a report on the long-awaited stoplight installation at Highway 62 and Lear Avenue. Allowing for pole delivery in September and subsequent construction, projected completion is slated for October.
