TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL PASSES ON PROJECT PHOENIX NAME CHANGES

The Twentynine Palms City Council learned at its meeting last night that plans for the Starbucks coffee shop are moving forward and the project is expected to be completed mid-year. Reporter Keith Bailey was at the meeting and has an update on the renaming of Yucca Avenue and Project Phoenix…

In December, the City of Twentynine Palms announced a contest to rename Yucca Avenue and Project Phoenix because of complaints that the people could confuse the names with Yucca Valley and Phoenix, Arizona. Last night, the Twentynine Palms City Council was presented with options like Desert Willow and Gateway Avenue as new names for Yucca Avenue. However, neither suggestion impressed the council and they voted to keep the name for now. Project Phoenix will keep its name as well because of the potential for confusion since all the paperwork for the development refers to it as Project Phoenix; changing the name now could cause unwanted problems. The Council decided to revisit the name changes once the projects are complete.
