On April 28, the Twentynine Palms City Council filled the three vacancies on the Planning Commission, choosing from an applicant pool of eight residents. Greg Mendoza was reappointed to the Commission. The two new members are Larry Briggs and Kenneth King.
The preliminary budget presented by staff to the Council for 2015-16 showed a nearly $200,000 surplus in the nearly $8 million General Fund budget. The council directed spending cuts of $130,000 from the proposed budget, including amounts allocated for studies for a hotel narketing special district and a drag strip. The budgeting process is scheduled to continue over the next four council meetings.
