Last night, the Twentynine Palms City Council voted unanimously to modernize much of their energy equipment with an eye toward long-term savings. Reporter Heather Clisby explains…
It’s official. Twentynine Palms is heading for a city-wide energy upgrade. After solution proposals by Climatec, the City Council unanimously agreed
to modernize in an effort to reduce power consumption and the city’s utility bills.
Attending Climatec representatives detailed the Infrastructure Modernization Program which includes LED lighting, solar implementation, HVAC and thermostat upgrades, irrigation, and plug load management. The city will seek financing through IBANK, a state lender that offers a subsidized low-interest rate program. The estimated cost of the project is $1.2 million and projected overalls savings is $2.7 million.
The council also voted unanimously to move forward with a Clean Water State Revolving Fund application for planning and development of the city’s centralized wastewater and sewer system.
Closing on a high note, City Manager Frank Luckino announced that the city has a budget surplus of $800,000, mostly from revenue.
