Now on a monthly summer schedule, the Twentynine Palms City Council gathers this evening to address transportation, tourism and a re-imagined Pioneer Days. Reporter Heather Clisby has details…
At tonight’s Twentynine Palms City Council meeting, there will be a public hearing on SB 743, a state bill aimed at creating more transportation options to decrease emissions.
Up for discussion is the proposed tourism tax of 1.5 percent expected to bring in $178K annually for the Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID). The assessment is to be levied on hotels, motels and short-term rentals.
The Council will discuss alternative activities planned for 2020 Pioneer Days. Due to COVID-19, virtual events are being planned for the annual historical celebration, October 15-18.
Regarding the upcoming election of District 1, the Council will likely appoint sitting Councilmember Steven Bilderain who is running unopposed.
The TBID Sub-Committee, comprised of Mayor Joel Klink and Councilmember Bilderain, will recommend one of four applicants for the appointment to the TBID Advisory Board.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall at 6136 Adobe Road. It can be viewed on demand on the City’s website, 29palms.org. Residents can also livestream the meeting from the site by clicking “Meeting Agendas.”
