The Twentynine PalmsCity Council will meet tonight to welcome new employees, host a public hearing on tourist fees, and discuss an expansion of the Business Loan Improvement Program.
After welcoming new city employees, the Twentynine Palms City Council will host a public hearing tonight on the proposed 1.5 percent assessment fee on short-term stays within the city. This would be in addition to the nine percent Transient Occupancy Tax and is anticipated to generate approximately $285,000 annually to help fund the Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID).
The council will then discuss the possible expansion of the Business Improvement Loan Program which was introduced last year for commercial properties within the Downtown Specific Plan area and to be used for external improvements only. The program requires a 50 percent match from the property/business owner with a minimum loan amount at $5,000 and the maximum at $40,000. A total of $350,000 has been allotted for the program and only a portion has been used so the council is considering extending the boundaries of eligibility.
The meeting takes place on Tuesday, September 27, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, 6136 Adobe Road, and can be livestreamed or viewed on-demand via the city’s website, 29palms.org.
