MUSD Board Meets Tonight After Week Of Violence in Schools

The MUSD Board will be meeting tonight (September 27) after a tumultuous week of violence and threats at Morongo Basin Schools. Though the scheduled agenda deals with more routine school district matters, some parents are expected to take advantage of the public hearing portion of the meeting to express their concerns about a threatened shooting at Twentynine Palms Junior School High School, a rumors of a shooting at Yucca Valley High School and what many have said is an overall rise in violent behavior among students.

Tonight, at Joshua Tree Elementary, MUSD Board of Trustees will meet in closed session at 6:30, then reconvene in open session at 7pm. Among noteworthy items on the agenda: An update to regulation of campus swimming pool safety; a Board of Trustees Payment, Purchase and Payroll Summary Report; and approval request for various Yucca Valley High ASB Fundraisers.

Action items include: request to approve completion of repainting Twenty-Nine Palms High School, an adjustment for architectural bid for access control and door hardware upgrades at various MUSD sites, a recommendation to adopt policy regarding married, pregnant, or parenting students; as well as policy regarding independent study.

The meeting begins tonight at 7 p.m., and will be held at Joshua Tree Elementary School, located at 4950 Sunburst Ave in Joshua Tree
