Tonight, December 14, the Twentynine Palms City Council will meet and consider a year-long pilot program with Bird for 50 electric scooters across town. The council will review both highlights and lowlights from the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for Fiscal Years 2020 and 2021. The agenda includes the introduction of an ordinance on the regulation of solid and organic waste. The ordinance relates to Senate Bill (SB) 1383 passed in 2016 that aims to reduce methane emissions state-wide as well as recover at least 20 percent of wasted surplus food by 2025. The council will likely celebrate winning a grant award of over $700,000 from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Homekey program for the purchase and rehabilitation of four properties on Elm Avenue for the permanent housing of low-income residents. Holt Architecture will present a proposed layout for the renovation of the Luckie Park pool so the council can provide feedback. Finally, council will select the mayor and mayor pro-tem for 2022.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, 6136 Adobe Road. The meeting can be livestreamed or viewed on-demand via the city’s website 29palms.org.
