The Twentynine Palms City Council gathers this evening to discuss a new median on Hwy 62 and construction costs for Project Phoenix, among other issues. Reporter Heather Clisby has details…
Tonight, the Twentynine Palms City Council will gather to discuss and likely appoint local resident, Chantelle Rodriquez, to the Public Arts Advisory Committee (PAAC). Rodriquez is an entrepreneur, art educator, and substitute teacher for the Morongo Unified School District.
Up for discussion is the awarded contract to KOA Corporation in the amount of $27,500 for the construction of a raised median in front of the Stater Brother’s Shopping Center on Highway 62.
The council will also discuss an increased cost within Project Phoenix. When the city hired Holt Architecture in February 2019, the anticipated construction cost of the multi-purpose building was $350 per-square-foot; it is now $390 per-square-foot for the facility, which includes the community kitchen. The city will pay for construction, Morongo Unified School District (MUSD) will cover the kitchen equipment, and Copper Mountain College will contribute $20,000 towards kitchen design.
Beginning at 6 p.m., the meeting can be livestreamed and then viewed on-demand via the city’s website, 29palms.org. The meeting is closed to public attendance due to COVID-19. To submit questions or concerns in advance of the meeting, email [email protected].
