TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL MEETS: FIRE DEPARTMENT, GRASS REMOVAL, SPECIAL FUNDS

It’s déjà vu all over again at the Twentynine Palms City Council—twice. Reporter Dan Stork previews yet-another fire department task force, agenda-setting criteria, and several other items scheduled for tonight’s meeting…

The June 9 meeting of the Twentynine Palms City Council starts off with a closed session at 5:30 to discuss acquisition of a parcel at the southeast corner of Twentynine Palms Highway and Yucca Avenue. A public hearing during the 6 p.m. open session will be about a development code amendment to allow public safety uses and facilities, such as ambulance quarters, in more city zones. Then the council will discuss the removal of yet more grass from city properties, in accordance with drought measures, and potentially supported by a grant program. Next up is the possible creation of an ad hoc city council/water district fire committee, at the behest of the city manager and the fire chief. Another issue that won’t die is how items get placed on the council agenda, back for the sixth time since 2004, this time at the request of Council member Cora Heiser. Finally, the council will be asked to approve the special funds budget for the coming fiscal year.
