The Twentynine Palms City Council will see their financial house in order when they meet tonight. Reporter David Haldane had details…
The City of Twentynine Palms has its financial house in order. At least it looks that way, judging from the preliminary general fund budget for fiscal 2016/17 to be presented at tonight’s regular city council meeting.
The budget calls for revenues of $8.5 million—a nearly 3 percent increase from last year—with expenditures of just $8.4 million, leaving a $100,000 surplus. Among the recommended changes are a $36,000 expenditure for a potential music and arts festival and City Hall landscaping worth about $5,000.
A public hearing on the proposed budget is scheduled for May 24, after which the council will have until July 1 to approve it. In other business, the council will receive an update from local law enforcement officials.
Tonight’s meeting gets underway 6 p.m. at the council chambers on Adobe Road.
