TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL MEETS: DERELICT PROPERTIES AND PASEO DE MARA

The Twentynine Palms City Council will meet tonight to tackle derelict properties and other pressing matters. Reporter Heather Clisby has details….

Tonight, the Twentynine Palms City Council will gather for a full agenda.

There will be a public hearing regarding two properties on Adobe Road (one at 6595 and the other at 6976). City staff is recommending that they be declared a public nuisance and dangerous building, which requires the owners to remove all trash and demolish the building within 45 days or submit reconstruction plans.

The council will also likely adopt a resolution confirming the $21,000 cost of abating a neglected property at 6609 La Luna Avenue, an abandoned building that was demolished.

A public hearing will be held on the approval of a one-year extension of a conditional use permit for the development of a 200-unit apartment complex east of the Marine base.

The city council will put forward a request that the state allow the county to open more businesses in smaller communities like Twentynine Palms with lower COVID-19 infection rates.

Finally, the council will discuss and likely approve naming the Paseo in Project Phoenix as “Paseo de Mara” so that SoCal Edison may be able to assign addresses to utility pedestals (electric and telecom) to be located along the Paseo.

Tonight’s meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 6136 Adobe Road, and is available for livestreaming and on-demand at the City’s website, 29palms.org.
