The Twentynine Palms City Council will meet tonight with a full agenda.
Now that the 2020 census has concluded, the city faces redistricting. As required by the Elections Code, four public hearings must be held to discuss the issue and tonight’s meeting will be the first.
Another public hearing will be held to review the proposed assessment on all existing future hotel rooms at a rate of 1.5 percent per night. The proposed assessment on short term stays is anticipated to bring in $265,000 annually for the Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID).
The council will consider condemning buildings at Split Rock and Desert Queen Avenues and applying eminent domain to the properties and repurposing them for public parking near Freedom Plaza, part of Project Phoenix.
Also, the council will review the Building Improvement Loan Program and the appropriation of $350,000 from the Project Phoenix Capital Budget to fund the program.
The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, 6136 Adobe Road. The meeting is available via livestream and on-demand through the city’s website, 29palms.org.
