TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL MAY PAVE WAY FOR TRANSFER OF FIRE TO COUNTY TONIGHT

The Twentynine Palms City council meets in regular session tonight. Reporter David Haldane says the council is expected to take a big step toward facilitating the transfer of the Twentynine Palms Fire Department from water district control to the county…
And the beat goes on! Or so it seems, as the Twentynine Palms City Council considers finally approving an agreement with the city’s water district that would pave the way for the county takeover of local fire protection services. Among other things, the agreement calls for the city to take on a $3 million liability for public employee retirement services and receive revenues from district-operated cell phone towers. The district, city and residents have been struggling with the issue for years. It could find some resolution at the Council’s regularly scheduled meeting tonight.
Also on the agenda is the allocation of $10,000 for the city’s upcoming 29th anniversary celebration, and presentation of the preliminary special funds budget for fiscal 2016-17.
The meeting gets underway 6 p.m. at the City Council chambers on Adobe Road.
