Twentynine Palms is about to change the way its spelled. Reporter David Haldane attended last night’s City Council meeting and filed this story…
It’s all about the spelling. In a quirkiness known to anyone familiar with Twentynine Palms, the city’s name has always been written out in letters rather than numbers. Now that’s likely to change, at least with regard to its 29th birthday.
That’s the direction taken at last night’s City Council meeting where staffers were instructed to design a new logo incorporating the numerals two and nine. To be sure, the official city seal – featuring palm trees, mountains and letters – will remain on correspondence. But the new logo – likely to be unveiled next year – will adorn anything having to do with commemorating the city’s incorporation on November 23, 1987.
Councilmembers had only two special requests: include lots of color and, please, keep those mountains.
In other business, the Council approved a conceptual plan for a sewage treatment system that could eventually replace septic tanks.
