TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL LOOKS AT ART AND CARPORTS TONIGHT

Art and carports are on the agenda for tonight’s meeting of the Twentynine Palms City Council. Reporter David Haldane explains…

Is Twentynine Palms an artistic oasis? Lots of residents and community leaders think so, and tonight the City Council will consider helping them make their point. Specifically, it will look at approving a proposal by a community group called Action 29 Palms to repair, restore and renovate the city’s numerous public murals, many originally commissioned by the Council itself. If given a green light, the group says, it will fund the project itself.

In other action, the Council will consider broadening the city’s Development Code to allow higher detached garages and carports in rural areas and approving a $35,000 contract for environmental studies and analysis of Project Phoenix.
Tonight’s meeting gets underway 6 p.m. at City Hall on Adobe Road.
