TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL KICKS OFF 2019

Last night, the Twentynine Palms City Council met for the first time this year to prepare for a busy 2019. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details…

Twentynine Palms City Councils’ first gathering of 2019 began with a pre-meeting event to hear applicant presentations for the Community Development Block Grant. The applicants were primarily social service providers in addition to two applications from the City itself.

During the formal meeting, the Council reviewed Regional Organizational Assignments with most council members continuing assignments from the previous year and newly elected council member, Karmolette O’Gilvie, taking over John Cole’s assignments.

The Council then tackled future agenda items to determine whether or not they should remain. The surviving items include fees around National Park Drive, environmental research on the medical marijuana industry and the growing need for more bike paths.

Jim Bagley, longtime resident and former council member, did take the podium to express his displeasure that City Hall is closed on Fridays and asks that the council take up the issue again in the coming year.

Finally, City Manager Frank Luckino stated that the city has two current job openings, Office Assistant and Park Maintenance.
