Last night’s Twentynine Palms City Council meeting included the introduction of several new city employees and the first of four public hearings on redistricting. Reporter Heather Clisby was there…
The Twentynine Palms City Council began last night’s meeting on a high note with the introduction of four new city employees, two of whom are native to the city. There are two new employees in Parks and Recreation (Di’Onte Chappell and Jakub Kusmieruk), one in Animal Control (Matthew Klink) and one in Public Works (Zach Siedschlag).
The council meeting then largely focused on the city’s pending redistricting. Last night’s meeting was the first of four public hearings required before the district maps are re-drawn to reflect the 2020 census numbers. Allowing for clarification, finalized census numbers will not be available until late September or early October.
There were also several citizens who again urged the council to place a moratorium on the number of Vacation Home Rental (VHR) permits being granted; the city’s Planning Commission and the council continue to discuss and review options. The next council meeting will take place on August 24.
