TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL GETS CRIME REPORT, STARBUCKS UPDATE

The Tourism Business Improvement District’s Director of Marketing, Breanne Dusastre, presented new tourism logos to the Twentynine Palms City Council and, after some discussion, the design was unanimously approved.

Captain Trevis Newport of the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, presented the 2018 Crime Report for the entire county. Notable was a 2 percent rise in violent crime compared to 2017, a trend that is mirrored across the state. And while there was a rise in rape, robbery and assaults, there was an 8 percent decrease in property damage from 2017.

City Manager Frank Luckino presented the proposed two-year general fund budget that included the annual spending plan, the employee cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) and wage schedules. The council discussed how to spend the $400,000 surplus on unfunded city projects such as light installations and roof repair.

A Starbuck’s planned for the corner of Highway 62 and Adobe Road is currently in the permit process and scheduled to open in January 2020. Also, a traffic light for the corner of Utah Trail and Highway 62 is in the works and should be installed in approximately 12 weeks.
